Afghanistan
Afghanistan is where you will find the heart of humanity. I owe a debt of gratitude to the people I met—the Wakhis, Kyrgyz, Shia Hazaras, Sunnis, Pashtuns, and ex-Taliban members—those who offered me hospitality without expecting anything in return. They were kind simply because kindness was in their nature, and their generosity became a cornerstone of my journey and life.
At 21 and 22, I traveled solo independently to Afghanistan twice. My first trip, in late summer 2018, took me to the Wakhan Corridor, where I rented a donkey and trekked for 19 days. The second trip, in early summer 2019, saw me spending three weeks in Kabul, Bamiyan, and Kandahar, where I was welcomed and hosted by locals almost every night.
